Built by the same team that brought you the all-electric Mustang Cobra Jet 1400, the Mustang Mach-E 1400 is even more of a mind-blower, packing seven electric motors and an ultra-high-performance battery system that deliver 1,400 horsepower almost instantaneously to all four wheels. The result is a drag or drift car that can hang with even the highest-horsepower combustion-powered race machines, with a 160-mile-per-hour top speed and 2,300 pounds of downforce, for sticks-like-glue handling.
“Now is the perfect time to leverage electric technology, learn from it, and apply it to our lineup,” said Ron Heiser, chief program engineer, Mustang Mach-E. “Mustang Mach-E is going to be fun to drive, just like every other Mustang before it, but Mustang Mach-E 1400 is completely insane, thanks to the efforts of Ford Performance and RTR.”
Requiring over 10,000 hours to complete, with input from Ford GT racing engineers and RTR Vehicles founder and legendary drift racer Vaughn Gittin, Jr., the Mustang Mach-E 1400 features three high-torque electric motors attached to the front differential, plus four more equally-powerful motors driving the rear wheels. The set-up allows the Mustang Mach-E 1400 to be quickly tuned for a wide variety of racing applications, including drag racing, drifting and high-speed oval track racing. Massive fender flares allow for wider tires to put the torque and power to good use, while aerodynamic optimizers include functional cooling ducts, a front splitter, dive planes and a large, adjustable rear wing. The hood of the Mustang Mach-E 1400 is made of organic composite fibers, a lighter-weigh alternative to carbon fiber.
“Getting behind the wheel of this car has completely changed my perspective on what power and torque can be,” said Vaughn Gittin Jr., RTR Vehicles founder, motorsports champion and professional fun-haver. “This experience is like nothing you’ve ever imagined, except for maybe a magnetic roller coaster.”
Power delivery can be split evenly between front and rear, or all torque can be sent to either the front or rear wheels independently. Powering the Mustang Mach-E 1400 is a 56.8-kilowatt-hour liquid-cooled battery, with nickel manganese cobalt pouch cells for ultra-high performance and high discharge rate. An electronic brake booster allows the system to recover some lost charge during braking.
