Enjoy! American Graffiti | 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe

This 1973 fan favorite was directed and co-written by George Lucas before he became superstar-famous for the Star Wars trilogy. An ode to the early 1960s in Southern California, the film is a real blast from the past, complete with sock-hops, cruising on cheap gasoline and illegal drag races. The movie concludes with the ultimate drag race between drag racing champ John Milner (Paul Le Mat) driving a ’32 Ford Deuce Coupe vs. his challenger, Bob Falfa (Harrison Ford) who’s driving a suped-up 1955 Chevy Bel Air. Spoiler alert: unlike Falfa’s Chevy, Milner’s bright yellow deuce survives the movie, to race another day.

National Lampoon’s Vacation | 1979 Ford LTD Country Squire a.k.a “Wagon Queen Family Truckster”

A certified comedy classic “National Lampoon’s Vacation” stars funnyman Chevy Chase as the goofy patriarch of the hapless Griswold family, who tries to take his family on an extended hi-jinxed road trip that just keeps turning toward disaster. Carrying them on their “Quest for Fun” is the ultimate family vehicle, the Wagon Queen Family Truckster. Though the custom wagon includes many features no sane Ford designer would have ever added to a production car (like the hideous dual-quad headlights, lifted from two Dodge Diplomats), the Truckster was actually a very uglied-up 1979 Ford LTD Country Squire wagon. A rolling embodiment of America’s obsession with over-the-top automotive design, the car went on to become an enduring symbol of 1980s excess, and the term ‘Family Truckster’ is still used as slang for a large family vehicle capable of carrying loads of people and cargo today.

Diamonds are Forever | 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1

For a movie night full of intrigue and espionage, check out the sultry spy movie, Diamonds are Forever, which features legendary actor the late Sir Sean Connery playing the British agent 007, James Bond. While Bond is mostly associated with British sports cars like the Astin-Martin DB8, he ditches his Queen-And-Country ride in “Diamonds Are Forever” for some cool American muscle car, the 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1, which barrels down Las Vegas’ main strip in a harrowing car chase. To make sure the muscle was more than just Hollywood magic, the film’s producers had their star car outfitted with Ford’s massively-powerful 429-cubic-inch Cobra Jet V8, which was a new option for 1971.

Grease | 1948 Ford Deluxe

For the perfect romantic movie and the ultimate musical star car, we can’t forget about ‘Greased Lightnin’, the ‘48 Ford Deluxe that co-stars in the 1978 musical romantic comedy Grease. Starring John Travolta as the greasin’ T-Birds’ leader Danny Zuko and Olivia Newton-John as Australian transfer student Sandy Olsson, the film is a toe-tapping tale about a high school delinquent who develops an attraction for Newton-John’s buttoned-down good girl. As seen in the film, there are two versions of the ‘48 Deluxe. First was the white ‘Greased Lightning’ version that the gang modifies and races. Second was the heavily-customized red version that Danny and Sandy fly away in during the closing number. Whether you love the customization tricks thrown at the classic fat-fendered Ford or not, it has since become a movie classic.
