Ford offers innovative FordPass mobile platform free to customers

The future is now, and one of the incredible ways that has manifested itself when it comes to vehicles in recent years is the ability to lock, unlock, remote-start your vehicle and more, from anywhere on the planet, right from your smartphone. While other manufacturers see these handy smartphone integration features as a way to make a buck, charging as much as $14.99 per month to access the service, Ford recently announced that they’re making their FordPass smartphone remote system, powered by FordPass Connect, free brand-wide on any new vehicle purchased.

Introduced in 2016, FordPass is a mobile app that can do it all for your Ford vehicle, including allowing you to start, stop and unlock your car, schedule maintenance, remotely chat with Ford service advisors and more. FordPass currently has more than 1.5 million active users. The app can be downloaded for free through Google Play or the App Store.

Though Ford previously charged a monthly fee for FordPass service through one, two or five-year subscriptions, Ford has made FordPass free on vehicles equipped with FordPass Connect, effective immediately. GMC and Chevrolet require customers to pay over $14 a month to access their OnStar system after a three-month trial period, while Toyota charges $8 per month for access to their similar system.
