“Bronco Sport has the toughness and smarts to help turn off-road novices into 4×4 pros,” said Hau Thai-Tang, Ford chief of product development. “Bronco Sport embraces the needs of outdoor enthusiasts – every inch of it was designed and engineered with weekend adventurers in mind.”
The family resemblance between the 2021 Bronco and the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is unmistakable, featuring a rugged, retro-futuristic design with bold grille, flat sides, round headlamps, and short front and rear overhangs to help the Bronco Sport mount, climb and leave behind obstacles that would shred the bodywork of a “street only” compact SUV. Industrial, unpainted finishes are prominent on the exterior, helping the Bronco Sport be ready for anything Mother Nature can send your way. Five trim levels will available, including the Base, Big Bend, Outer Banks, Badlands and First Edition, the last of which will be available exclusively at launch.
Each trim package is adventure-centric, built to evoke a certain landscape. The First Edition, for example, features standard 29-inch all-terrain tires with aggressive tread for improved traction in mud, muck or sand.
Built for today’s athletic and outdoorsy lifestyles, the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport is designed to go seamlessly from your commute to mountain trails, and is built hardy and resilient inside and out to stand up to the punishment of off-roading. For example, thanks to the high, “Safari”-style rear roof, when the rear seats are folded flat, the Bronco Sport is specifically designed to securely transport two full-size mountain bikes standing upright. Four accessory bundles that will be available from Ford Performance let you personalize your Bronco Sport for whatever you’re into, including kits for kayaking, skiing, camping and more.
Delivering the off-road capability and robustness that can get you out to where the pavement ends and back again is the Bronco Sport’s advanced 4×4 system, with a class-exclusive twin-clutch rear drive with an electronic locking differential. Utilizing a high-tech assist and constant computer monitoring, the system can instantly divert almost 100 percent of rear-axle driving torque to the wheel with the most grip, helping your Bronco Sport dig its way out of trouble that would stop any other small SUV in its tracks. Upping the ante is the Bronco Sport’s available Terrain Management system, with seven available modes to fine-tune drivetrain systems to the task at hand, including Normal, Eco, Sport, Slippery and Sand; Mud/Ruts and Rock Crawl mode. Keeping rocks, logs and other obstacles from mulching your drivetrain are four steel bash plates, while frame-mounted tow hooks let you give a tow to stuck Jeeps you might happen past on the trail. Badlands and First Edition Bronco Sports are even designed to ford up to two feet of water without damage.
Providing the push to your weekend fun will be either the 2.0-liter EcoBoost turbo engine, with best-in-class 245 horsepower and 275 lb.-ft. of torque, or the 1.5-liter EcoBoost engine with a 181 horsepower and 190 lb.-ft. of torque. Both will be backed by an eight-speed automatic, with some editions equipped with steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. To make cleanup after muddy fun easier, the Badlands and First Edition Bronco Sport models will feature washable rubber flooring throughout the passenger cabin, plus easy-clean cloth seats and silicone sealed, weatherproof switches and knobs.
Is the 2021 Ford Bronco Sport safe? As if you have to ask! Every Bronco Sport will come equipped with Ford Co-Pilot360, a suite of advanced driver-assist technologies that includes Pre-Collision Assist with Automatic Emergency Braking featuring Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning and Dynamic Brake Support, Blind Spot Information System with Cross-Traffic Alert, Lane-Keeping System, Auto High Beam Headlamps and a rearview camera.
