Ford Super Duty’s all-new 7.3-liter V8 delivers best-in-class gas horsepower and torque ‘ McLarty Daniel Ford

When it comes to horsepower and torque in heavy duty and commercial trucks, the name of the game is “Put Up or Shut Up.” Recently, Ford just put up the numbers in a big way, announcing that the all-new 7.3-liter gasoline V8, available in the 2020 F-Series Super Duty pickup, will deliver an incredible 430 horsepower and 475 ft-lbs. of torque. That will make the 2020 Super Duty best-in-class for both horsepower and torque, raising the bar for what Ford owners can expect when it comes to power and capability.

Paired with the all-new 10-speed TorqShift heavy-duty transmission, the new 7.3-liter V8 will be will be an option on 2020 F-250 and F-350 Super Duty pickups, and standard equipment in Ford commercial trucks, including the Ford F-550, F-600, F-650, F-750 Medium Duty and E-series models.

“The 7.3-liter is designed for maximum durability in the harshest environments given that our customers live and work in these conditions every day,” said Joel Beltramo, Ford manager for gas V8 engines. “This engine has the largest displacement in its class and is designed to provide benefits in key areas like power, durability, ease of maintenance and total operating costs.”

Designed around al all-new overhead valve architecture, for big performance in a more compact package, the 7.3-liter V8 is designed to create most of its power at lower RPMs. That’s where you need it most for towing and hauling. The 7.3-liter V8 also includes durability-enhancing features like a variable displacement oil pump, oversized main-bearings, a forged steel crankshaft and piston cooling jets to help lower cylinder temperatures during high-stress situations like towing uphill. The 7.3-liter joins an exciting lineup of Ford engine options in the Super Duty and commercial trucks,
including the 6.2-liter gas V8 and the third-generation 6.7-liter Power Stroke turbodiesel.
